MiraCosta Cafeteria

Food from schools always gets a bad rep whether it be your K-12 lunch room or your college cafeteria. We all remember having mystery meat being served at our schools growing up and all the limited options given at the lunchroom. So, with that taken into consideration we took a look at our own cafeteria here at MiraCosta College. MiraCosta has two campuses and both with cafeterias who serve similar food with only slightly different menu items. Oceanside campus cafeteria has a large menu for both breakfast and lunch. This variety of options makes it easier for students to find something they like.

“An issue students have with school cafeterias is that they do not offer a lot of options for students to choose from. ”

MiraCosta student Connor Mitchell says the one thing he loves about the school menu is the options they offer, “they have something for everybody.” It is clear that the most popular breakfasts at MiraCosta are their burritos. They are pre made and ready to go every morning which is awesome if you are in a rush to get to class or going to work after you get out of class. They also offer three kinds of burritos, a bacon, cheese and potato burrito; a sausage, cheese and potato burrito; and for vegetarians they have the cheese and potato burritos. And if you don't like any of those options you can always go in line and custom order your burritos. This is something a lot of students like to do like student Bobby Sturdy, he said he likes to custom order his burritos because he adds both sausage and bacon with tater tots to his burritos which is something not offered in the premade burritos. If you are not in the mood for a burrito you can also get a plate of eggs with sausage, bacon, and potatoes. They also offer breakfast sandwiches and croissants with sausage and egg which always sell out. They also offer freshly squeezed orange and grapefruit juice and they have warm oatmeal or grits every morning. With such a diverse breakfast menu they also had to deliver when it comes to their lunch options. The lunch menu always offers freshly made burgers every day that you can also custom make however you want. They also have a deli where you can create a sandwich to your liking and they offer fresh avocado slices to go on your sandwich which is great if you are an avocado lover. Xavier Barker another student here at MiraCosta also said that the pizza is his favorite thing to get because it is served ready to go every day.

They have pepperoni, sausage and cheese slices the holy trinity of pizza toppings.

The San Elijo campus offers a similar menu to the one on the Oceanside but one of the biggest differences is that they have the taco menu that the Oceanside cafeteria does not offer. Student Holly Salyards and Alex Koetting said they love getting tacos at the San Elijo campus which is something they wish the Oceanside campus offered more off since they spend more there. Whatever you are in the mood for you can most likely find it at the MiraCosta cafeteria. They also have a great selection of fountain and bottled drinks. They offer fresh fruit if you are not trying to eat anything heavy. And if you just want to snack they also have chips like Flaming Hot Cheetos and granola bars. Another great feature about the cafeteria is their hours, Amber Friend, a student here at MiraCosta, said she loves their convenient times.

The biggest issue students had with the cafeteria was their prices. Student Marlene Xochical said their prices could be a little more college student friendly. With that being said though if you have not checked out the cafeteria yet give it a try and decide for yourself. You’ll be posting loads of engaging content, so be sure to keep your blog organized with Categories that also allow visitors to explore more of what interests them.
